Stacey Sorah (1)

STACEY SORAH

Personal Experience

Stacey is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating from Forest Hills Northern High School in ’07.  She was a certified massage therapist for two years before becoming an admin. assist. and account manager in the screen-printing industry in Metro Detroit. Her She lives with her husband in the Soo, and  collects indoor tropical plants, with hopes of expanding to an outdoor garden. She loves hunting vanity license plates; her own is MIPL8S…(a winner!).  “I love to eat and evaluate what I eat.  Prepping foods is meditative, and there’s nothing better than serving people delicious foods you’ve created yourself.” What she likes best about LCCS: location, class size, farm-to-table, exciting events, minimal waste, excellent teacher, supportive classmates.

Josh Oblander (1)

JOSHUA OBLANDER

Personal Experience

A Hessel resident, Josh started his culinary career at age 14, working in LCCS’s restaurant during its first summer in 2015, returning every summer since. After graduating from Northern Michigan University, he moved to Traverse City, living and working with two LCCS graduates, TJ Lee and Ciarra Birman.  Deciding this was the perfect time to extend his culinary education, what better place would there be than where he had started?  He always loved Zach’s approach to teaching and his respect for produce and the environment.  Josh enjoys Thai and Asian cuisines, and he looks toward honing his knife skills and cooking meats perfectly, with a goal of working in a Michelin-starred restaurant.  A little side note: he writes music!

ANNA McAVOY-EMRICK

Personal Experience

From Mason, Michigan, Anna has her BS in Nonprofit Management, continuing as an administrative professional for 12 years. She and her husband Jeremy, a registered nurse, have a 2-year-old child, Leo, with whom they love exploring the outdoors.  Gardening is high on her list of interests.  She chose LCCS for its focus on local ingredients/farm-to-table, plus its small class size and one-year program.  In developing a new career, she wants to learn the science of food on a deeper level but hopes to incorporate her writing skills.  The latter is quite evident in her delightful blog:  https://annapinchofsalt.wordpress.com
